More and more often, your next customer doesn't scroll through search results - they ask an AI or a voice assistant: "where can I buy this", "which one should I choose", "recommend something cheaper". For the assistant to name your product with the right price and availability, instead of skipping you, it needs the facts in a form a machine can read. Schema.org markup is exactly that - a card for every product, written in the language that every search engine and every AI reads. The plugin adds it for you - no code, no theme edits.

According to Adobe, AI-driven traffic to US retail grew 393% year over year in Q1 2026 and converts about 42% better than other sources. And a rich snippet earns clicks: +25% across a hundred thousand pages at Rotten Tomatoes, +82% at Nestlé - both published in Google's own documentation. How search and AI decide what to show

When a search engine or an AI prepares an answer about a product, it looks at your page. The difference is what exactly it sees there - and that decides whether the customer comes to you or to a competitor.

People ask an AI - and buy on the store's website

ChatGPT alone gets around 50 million shopping queries a day (OpenAI data). The 2026 pattern is simple: people find a product in an AI - and buy it on the store's website. By Walmart's measurement, AI brings twice as many new customers as ordinary search, and shoppers from Perplexity leave an average order value 57% higher than other channels. But the assistant will pick your product only if it can read its data - and that is exactly what markup is.

And each assistant fetches data its own way: ChatGPT crawls with its own bot, and OpenAI warns plainly that a site blocking it will not appear in ChatGPT search results at all. Gemini is grounded in Google's index; Bing feeds Copilot. "One of them understood me" does not mean "all of them did" - which is why the shared language matters.

The same spot in the results, but with a price, availability and rating stars, gets clicked noticeably more often. The product looks "like on a marketplace" - and the customer is less likely to leave for a big marketplace. All of that extra information in the snippet comes straight from your product markup.

Who is already in AI answers

The AI answers right on the results page - and links to stores

Ask Google, ChatGPT or Perplexity a shopping question and you get a direct answer with products, prices and sources - right there, before the list of links. Among those sources are online stores that are already taking customers straight from the AI's answer. Your product, with its correct price and rating, gets into that answer only when it is marked up. In Russia the same happens in Yandex, where the Alice AI assistant leads product search (74%, per the "Ashmanov & Partners" "Search 2026" report).

Voice assistants

The assistant answers by voice - and it is not only in a speaker

Voice assistants live in your phone, apps, browser, car and TV, not just in a smart speaker. Google Assistant and Apple Siri ship on billions of devices worldwide, and Amazon Alexa handles requests in tens of millions of homes. In Russia the same role belongs to Alice - in the Yandex app, browser and navigator, with a monthly audience of around 30 million people (Yandex data). Whichever assistant a customer uses, when they say "recommend where to buy", the answer is built by its neural network - and it needs an accurate source of facts about your product.

How this connects to markup. A speaker or assistant doesn't read your site itself - it passes the question to its neural network. The network turns to AI search, which pulls data from websites. It is easier and more reliable for AI search to take the exact price, availability and rating from markup than to parse raw HTML. The chain is simple:

The speaker is always nearby - and people already order through it

Hundreds of millions of smart speakers sit in homes worldwide, led by Amazon Echo and Google Nest, and people already shop by voice through them - Amazon Alexa places reorders and grocery orders out loud. The same is happening in Russia: by M.Video's data, 1 million smart speakers were sold in Q1 2026 and 96% of them run local assistants, with Salyut ordering from Samokat and Lenta and Alice from Yandex Lavka. If the customer didn't name a brand, the assistant picks the product itself - which makes it all the more important that your store is clear and accurate to it.

An official standard, not a homemade trick

One language that everyone created and everyone reads

The Schema.org standard was created jointly by Google, Microsoft (Bing), Yahoo and Yandex - and today every major search engine and AI reads it. This isn't an experiment or a "traffic trick", it is a recognized industry standard. The plugin simply turns it on correctly and across your whole catalog at once - with no programmer and no risk of "what if I marked it up wrong".

Format matters. The plugin uses JSON-LD - the format Google explicitly calls recommended, and the one Bing's own markup validator reads alongside microdata and RDFa. The markup goes into the technical part of the page and doesn't change how your store looks.

Why completeness decides it

Shoppers ask anything - and the answer has to live somewhere

People no longer page through a catalog. They ask out loud or in a chat: "can I return this", "do you ship to Denver", "what does it cost right now". The assistant answers with whatever it could read on your store page - and only about what is written there in a form it understands.

If nothing on the page says anything machine-readable about returns, the assistant says nothing about returns. Not because your store is bad, but because there is nowhere to take the answer from. An empty field is not a small gap in settings. It is a shopper's question left unanswered.

And this is precisely where stores fall short. In May 2026 Adobe measured how much of a retail site is available to AI at all: home pages scored 75%, category pages 74%, and product pages just 66%. The page your whole store exists for is the one a machine understands least.

None of this is our invention. Every field is documented by Google, so you can open it and check for yourself: product structured data and merchant listings. Yandex documents the same format in its own help center.

Product variants

Color and size are different products, and the shopper wants a specific one

Your shopper needs the blue one, size 42 - not "the model in general". If your store shows search a single combined card, the answer comes back combined too: no specific color, no price of its own, no stock of its own. The shopper does not see what they were looking for and moves on.

  • Every variant gets its own URL - the link opens the right color and size directly, instead of a card where everything has to be picked again.
  • Its own price and its own availability - if blue is out and red is in, that is visible before anyone clicks through.
  • Its own SKU - the code that lets the shopper and your warehouse mean the same thing.
  • Shared details are not duplicated - brand, description and reviews stay with the model instead of being copied onto every variant.

Google documents the variant requirements on a page of their own - including the rule that each variant needs its own URL. The plugin does that for you, from the variants already set up in Shop-Script.

You see which product was checked - not a cheerful "all good"

The readiness check names the specific product card it looked at and tells you which rule picked it. Not "your store is fine", but "I looked at this product, and here is what it is missing". That difference matters: you cannot fix anything based on a vague "all good".

  • Check any product you like - by name, by SKU, by number, or by simply pasting the link to its page.
  • The check runs immediately when you pick a product - no second button, no jumping to another tab.
  • The report ages out loud - once it is over an hour old, the report says so instead of leaving you to assume.
  • Every gap is named in plain words - what is not filled in, and where in Shop-Script you fill it.
